How To Determine If You Are Eligible For Pell Grants
Loans may be seen as an effective way to pay for college;

Pell Grants

College Grants

however the bad thing is that any loans that you take out as payment for your education will have to be paid back at a later date. Perhaps, the best way to pay for your education is through a series of Pell grants that are offered by the federal government.

These financial aides never have to be paid back after you have completed your college education. Everyone wants to take advantage of these great offers; however the only people that get to capitalize on this type of financial assistance are the people that are eligible for it.

In order to determine if you are eligible for a grant there are a few things that you must do first. First and foremost, you will need to locate a higher learning institution that is willing to accept you as a full or part time student. After locating a college, you will be asked by their financial aid department to fill out a special form.

This form is known as your FAFSA form. The form is designed to give students all of the information that they will need on different financial options that they have when they choose to attend college. These forms will ask prospective students to enter their financial information onto them. Typically, in order to begin filling out this form you will need to obtain your income tax statements that state the amount of money that you earned the year before.

If you still live with your parents, you will also need their financial information as well in order to complete your FAFSA paperwork. The department of education will give each student that completes one of these forms an EFC number. This number will be used in order to validate the special financial offers that you are eligible for. You cannot lie about any of your financial information when completing one of these forms. If you do embellish on these forms you may be excluded from attending the college of your choice.

The amount of money that you can expect to receive from this government funded program will depend on your income and the amount of money that the government is willing to render for your education. For example, the maximum amount of money that the federal government gave out for the year 2010 was $4800. Not every student will be eligible to receive the total grant amount.

The amount you can expect to receive for Pell grants will be based off of the EFC number that was given to you after completing your FAFSA information as well as your family's financial information. The cost of the college or university you will be attending is also a factor that the government considers when they are considering giving financial aide for college; your student status will be evaluated also. For example, full time students will generally be given an additional amount of aid in comparison to part time students.

There are a lot of financial assistance programs that are available to anyone that wishes to attend college. In order to locate some of these assistance programs you have to be willing to engage in a little bit of research. Studies show that students that receive a higher learning degree make anywhere between $20,000 to $50,000 more in one year than someone who does not have a degree from an accredited learning institution.
