Just like any company in operation, your organization should be well structured. Your company should operate within government regulations. You have to proof your reliability and focus on accomplishments. If your company lacks the fundamentals, organizations may not take you seriously and your cause will just be another cause.
An organization is seen through the way management lead their people. By sitting on the board, does not entitle you just to be a decision maker. Give some of your valuable time. Go out there and help get the necessary sponsorships and funding. Be the voice of your organization. Be determined to succeed, work hard at it and you will surely make a success of it.
The first choice for most organizations would be to try to apply for a grant through the federal government. There are numerous such grants available and you should do the necessary research on what is on offer and what suits your situation. Start by creating a database for yourself with all the names of the organizations that offer grants and the criteria. Keep track of all your resources and contacts, which you should be with, the requirements, deadlines and the grant amounts.
One should keep in mind that grants are not offered to anyone. Companies have to be sure that you have a plausible organization and that the money they invest are used to better the community and even the country.
There are numerous grants available in the health care sector to aid the advancement of the arts. Grants are available for refugee resettlement. They offer services that would include medical services, cash assistance, employment placement, case management and English language training.
The grant fund program for reducing health disparities, offers benefits to racial and ethnic minority children, those who are illiterate and from low-income homes and rural areas. These grants also assist children who are physically or mentally disabled and those who have hearing problems and are visually impaired. Financial aid for these types of organizations varies depending on the proposed project and how they plan to help those in need.
Some grants programs encourage and promote native arts and cultures. This aid is to promote the art experience in schools. Areas of focus include history, humanities, public places and folk arts. This financial aid varies depending on the scope of the project.
There is an amount set aside each year for funding of many non-profitable organizations. Total amounts run in the millions. Following some basic steps should help you obtain a suitable grant. You will likely have to present the organization with a business plan. In the vision and mission, be sure to include what the grant will help you achieve. Produce a budget plan, detailing what every dollar would be spent on. The plan should be very detailed. Ensure that you have all the necessary information and do not leave anything out. It may help to use a business plan template from which to work. Someone who might feel in the dark would not give your cause a second glance. The plan should be presented in a neat plastic or cardboard folder.
When putting together you proposal ensures you have taken care of all the finer details of your application. The covering letter could be the reason why you failed to obtain the assistance. Ensure you get a proper letter done even if you have to use the services of a professional writer if there is a need for it. The first page of your proposal should be a summarized version of your proposal. Ensure that this is not longer than one page.
Clearly stipulate what your cause is about. You cannot assume that the fund committee already knows what your project entails. Therefore, you should give as much detail as possible. Ensure you include your research on how are going to go about to accomplish your goals. Your objectives should be outlined in an understandable manner, explaining step-by-step how the various objectives will be reached.
The project will then be assessed. In doing so, your founders will know exactly where every dollar will be spend. Compile a list of records that will be kept to evaluate the project. Ensure you compile a proper expenditure report. You should be able to explain if there are any variables between actual and budgeted amounts.
Before applying for any type of grant, be sure that you are familiar with what is expected of you and what is on offer. Pay attention to the smallest details even if it is the number of copies of one document to the order in which documents are to be presented. If the application indicated for you to fax it, do not hand deliver it. Make sure you fax it. You could make a follow up call just to confirm the paperwork has been received. Get the name of the person you speak to and note it on your database.
If your application is denied, do not give up. Try to rework your submission. Rewrite the entire document if that is what is necessary. You should elaborate on why it is such an important cause and why your organization has the ability to perform the task in excellence. Research other companies and see what makes you different. Never run other companies down.
The founder normally does not want to be the only one who provided financial assistance. Ensure you obtain assistance for various areas of your project. This should also be included in your proposal. It would be good if one organization were maybe offering you office space or some specialized equipment.
Clearly stipulate your project time line. They need to know if you project is a onetime thing or will it be an ongoing affair. Let them know if it will expand into other services as well. It will make for interesting and persuasive reading if you add some historical information about your organization. Clearly, describe all your projects, without being too long winded. If your application for nonprofit grants is successful, ensure you do not deviate from your plan. Follow your project plan and do your utmost best to stick within your budget. Reach your goals and give proper feedback where needed.
