That is why this grant is described as a sister to National SMART Grants. Academic Competitiveness free government money is available to students who are in their first and second academic years. It is a new education grant for those who are taking challenging high school courses.

The maximum amount a student can receive in this category is $4,000. The Average is $787 (per academic year). Students must be able to meet the rigorous secondary school program of study requirements in order to be eligible for this grant.

Federal Supplemental Edu. Opportunity Grants (FSEOG)
Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG) is a federal award for student with exceptional financial need. Those who want to enroll in college or university, but are lacking financial resources will be delighted to know they can use the FESOG grant and receive their education for free. FESOG grants for college do not have to be repaid as long as the student remains eligible. The program works on financial need basis. This means the grant has a limited amount of funds, and it has a deadline. Therefore those who apply first will have the first chance of being awarded.
