record management. Due to this the proposal of introduction of electronic health record software in most medical institutions in America is believed to take records management in hospitals to a whole new level. Electronic health software (EMR/EHR) is an electronic software which will have the capability of capturing all related health information for a patient and his health providers and merge this records into one file for easier access and retrieval .However some critics still believe that the stretch from medical billing software to an electronic health record is still a pipe dream and unrealistic.

As a result of this criticism the American government has embarked on Hi-tech priority grants programs. These programs are expected to provide massive funding in form of grants to medical institutions to implement the electronic health records project. The funds are divided into 2 broad portions. The first portion will be projected into establishing of Several Health Information and the second one is on Technology Regional Extensional Centers across the country

The second batch of the grant is projected at providing grants to various states to support mechanisms for sharing electronic information nationwide. This program was mainly designed to support the Hi tech act and hence the government is using every means possible to see that this project is a success. For instance it has devolved more funds for creating regional centers for Health Information Technology Extension Programs (HITEP) and Health Information Technology Research Centers (HITRC). Each center will support at least 100,000 primary care providers in learning to help medical centers to implement fully electronic health records

If this funds are used appropriately this might boost the performance of the medical industry. The implementation of EMR/HER can be a source of employment in the job market despite the fact that only a handful of people are qualified to offer training on how to use the Hi-tech software.EMR comes with a lot of benefits for healthcare professionals, For instance it allows document sharing hence medical practitioners are able to treat patients more effectively and efficiently. It also allows easy access to medical records thus health professionals do not have to trawl through paper records searching for patient’s record saving time and effort

Despite government efforts the private sector has not been left behind in the objective of the implementation of EMR/HER in major medical institutions I the U.S. Some colleges have begun offering courses on the use and implementation of electronic health records. Courses being offered in some of these private institutions include, IT, project management and hands on courses for medical practitioners to use the software. Students are also offered credit towards the purchase of the EMR software to their organizations. There is a lot to learn and many stumbling blocks between purchasing AN EMR system, implementing it and making use of it. Either way EMR is here with us to stay due to the to the rapid and continuous technological developments in every sector of economy
