were inspected and out of these ones it was established that 32% of the applicants didn't even comply with the basic requirements, not to mention the way they were edited. It was seen that more than the proposals were spelled wrongly, many grammar mistakes were all over the written content and it happened so that they were turned down. The applications that were posted with a budget requirement, 65% contained merely the grant amount requested without detailing the program budget whereas in others these budgets were added to the maximum amount of the allowed grant. Not to mention that most of these applications had n o plan included and as such the grant that was applied for was meant to be the only source of funding the program.
It is because of these flaws that one should consider hiring a grant writer who can think over, who can double check the document and polish it properly. With a negligent application, the funder will consider that the applicant won't bother to manage appropriately the grant they will receive as long as they didn't bother to write a correct application and proposal. This doesn't mean that you must hire a grant writer, but it means that you should be aware of the limitations that you can face once you are set on writing your own grant proposal. But you can ask: how I am supposed to know if there is the need to hire a grant writer? The answer is: the fact that your application was turned down several times, although you may qualify for the grant, can be the right time to consider hiring a grant writer.
At least that you can further do if not hiring the grant writer is to ask the board members and staff to take a look at the guidelines and after that to inspect the grant proposal seeing if there is something wrong within the proposal. If their conclusion is irrelevant then you should take into account the alternative of hiring the grant writer. Another thing to trigger your attention into hiring or not a grant writer is in the moment when you have no idea where to look for a grant. A researcher can be able to point out the one that you need, but in case these grants are not too competitive, then you can hire a grant writer to check your proposal and give you some hints.
When there is a competitive grant program ahead of you, then is time to seriously plan hiring a grant writer to work side by side with you and thus make sure that you two together do a great job!
