Pell Grants Useful Information on Pell Grant Qualifications
If you have considered Pell Grant as a way to sort out your financial

expenses related to schooling, then you should be careful with the Pell Grant qualifications. The main reason for which these grants are awarded is first of all the financial need, as these grants are designed to assist those with great financial needs.

But this not all that is required to comply with qualification requests. When the financial need is determined, two factors are weighed: the cost of the school you plan to attend to and the Estimated Family Contribution – EFC. To determine the EFC, there is a formula to establish a number that reflects the contribution of the family. For instance, a student whose family income is $30,000 will have a zero EFC and will get the maximum of Pell Grant.

The next aspect that is included in the Pell Grant qualification is to consider if the student is independent or not. These are those students who are over 22 of age, married, or current members of the armed forces or veterans. There are some conditions that see these students as being emancipated at younger ages, in case they have just exited the foster care. If the student is still dependent, appearing on the tax return of his parents, then he is considered not-emancipated.

Other Important Qualifying Factors

Other qualifying factors should be taken into account before applying, such as the satisfactory grades that students need to obtain in school (at least 2.0 grade point average). In case you can not maintain the satisfactory academics, the grant can be canceled. A big number of grants go to undergraduates, but there are others allocated to certain post-graduate programs, such as the ones for teaching. Apart from this, students must know that through the Pell Grant, one must attend the classes on a part time basis, at least. The amount will be set according to half-time, three-quarter, and full time attendance.

Other Types of College Grants

Once you have been acquainted with Pell Grants qualifications and you have been accepted, you become automatically eligible to get other Federal grants for college. Two of these ones are: Academic Competitiveness Grant and SMART Grant. But with all qualifications being met, students can still face their grant to be denied if their school has expended more of their allotments of funds. Applying early will be the best chance for the students to be awarded the grant. Thorough research will bring the information on the available funding and make it possible for the application to be accepted.
