this program finance students for college. with this grant young Americans can study in college without the worry of repaying.

Tuition fee is not the only expenses for college students as their are many other expenses, like School fees, transportation, boarding, and other personal expenses. Many students do not have enough money to afford all these expenses on their own. At this point Government help them with Pell grants. this grant was formerly known by Basic

Educational Opportunity Grant (BEOG). The current name of this grant came after a U.S. Senator Claiborne Pell of Rhode Island. he proposed this grant. other financial help and grants supplement Pell grant.

Pell grants are most important program for free education because the budget of this grant is biggest out of all education programs. every year the most money allocated to it. Average grant for the educational year 2009-2010 was $3,611 and the Maximum grant was $5,350, and the recent president's proposal would raise the maximum Pell grant by

$200, to $5,550 for the 2010-2011 academic year.

By this increase in the budget of this grant additional 260,000 will be benefited and thus decreasing the number of students who had to apply for loan instead. students should use this grant to finance their college.

Pell grants are the main components of financial aid. when students apply for financial help for their college expenses they are being considered for this grant in the first place. most of the time it comes the education costs.

The grant is based on the financial need and students from low income families are most deserving. the motto of this program is to provide post secondary education to those who otherwise can not afford it. The need is determined by the U.S. Department of Education using a standard formula invented by the U.S. congress.

About 5,400 schools, organizations and institutions participate in Pell Grants. and the money of this grant does not have to be repaid as long as student remain eligible.

Pell Grants Eligibility

Vocational students and undergraduates are usually the only beneficiaries of this grant as these students do not have a bachelor degree. in very rare cases grants are given to students enrolled in a post-baccalaureate teacher programs. students can only receive Pell grants money from one school at the time, and they must be enrolled or accepted for enrollment before they can apply.

How is Pell Grant Amount Determined?

Student's expected family contribution (EFC), cost of attendance, student's enrollment status, whether the student attends for a full year or less, are the things which determines the amount of the grant. EFC is a number used to determine eligibility for federal help.

There are lots of tips and tricks that can help students to be eligible for the grants and to receive maximum money. Those students who do not believe that they are eligible for this grant should also complete the application. Many students do not apply because they think that Pell grants are for economically weak students only which is not true.

students with sound income and assets can also qualify for the free money. The amount may be less but then something is better than nothing. Besides, The FAFSA application opens the door to all kinds of other federal, state, and school aid. If students do not qualify for Pell grants then they have other option too.

The date of submission of The FAFSA application is a important factor in order to be eligible for the grants, because the financial help is distributed on first come first serve basis. students should apply ON New Year's Day.

FAFSA calculate value of assets between applicant and their parents in a different way. applicant's contribution assessed at 20%, parent's contribution assessed at about 6%. applicant's grandparents and other are assessed at 0%. applicants with assets and income are

penalized.
