every one. People will wonder as why the government should offer a grant for people to repair their homes. Absurd as it may sound the truth is that yes, there are grants by the government to carry out home repairs. The main objective behind this kind of a grant is that people with low incomes often do not have the funds to repair their homes in time which gradually becomes unsafe and unhealthy to live in. The deterioration continues till such time that it becomes impossible to live in and is vacated by the occupants. Vacant and dilapidated houses are the ideal place for kinds of anti social activities to start from. Drugs and violence soon find shelter in such places which is not healthy for the entire community. Thus the government intervenes with financial help to avoid such a situation.

Types of Grants for Home Repair

• The Community Development Block Grant Program and HOME Program: This program is meant for low and medium income groups and is provided by the US Department of Housing and Urban Development for free home repairs.

• USDA Rural Development: These grants are for smaller communities of less than 10000 people in the rural areas who can use the money for carrying out home repair activities.

• The Federal Emergency Management Agency: This grant is specific to people whose houses have been damaged by natural calamities like earthquakes and hurricanes.

• Special Housing Adaptations: Money is given to veterans who can use it to remodel their houses for accessibility by disabled veterans.

The Housing repair and Rehabilitation Grant gives money to the tune of $ 7500 for repairing your house. This facility is available for all poor people who live in damaged houses and want to get it repaired. The grants are available for various types of repair in your house which includes mold removal, removing lead paint, furnace and water heating repairs, septic and well repairs, roof and wall repairs, handicap accessibility repairs, repairs for damage due to weather and rehabilitation after storms and earthquakes.

Where to Find the Grants?

The accurate information regarding the various grants for home repairs can be obtained from USDA Rural Department and Department of Housing and Urban Development. The local government grant agency will also be able to help you in finding the right grant for yourself. During the application process the agencies will require your proof of income, unemployment, disability or rural back ground. Once the application has been processed the agencies will send qualified representatives to assess the amount of damage requiring repair and thereafter the money will be released accordingly. After having received the grant you will have to undertake and complete the repairs in a stipulated time frame so that the works can be evaluated by the grants agency. Thus grants for home repairs are agreat way to get the funds and repair your home to livable standards. These funds are free and do not required to be paid back at a later stage. Also the government doesn’t need a credit check on you prior to sanctioning the grants.
