to help fund the expenses of college education. In order to understand the concept of these grants we must first appreciate the purpose for which they are given. In order to compete in a rapidly changing global scenario the US must have adequate number of qualified professionals who can take up responsibility of leading this nation into a brighter future. But of late there has been an alarming rise in the number of drop outs in the post high school levels. This is a worrying trend which the government wants to reverse. Therefore in order to encourage more people to continue higher education and at least complete college education it has allotted huge sums of funds to be given as college student grants.
Who gives the College Student Grants?
The grants are funded by the Federal as well as state governments in an effort to help out needy students who otherwise cannot afford the rising college education costs. The money is derived from the reserves that are created from the taxes we pay and hence as a welfare measure is given back to the needy citizens. There are many private non profit organizations that give college student grants to ensure that college education is accessible to more sections of the society.
Who can apply for College Students Grants?
The grants are available for any student requiring financial help to go through college education. The guiding principle in the award of the grants is the need of the student. Any legitimate US citizen can avail the grants to fund the higher education expenses. Before applying for such a grant one has to be enrolled or accepted for enrollment at a recognized institution in a program that has been selected for the grants program.
How can one apply for College Students Grants?
The first step in applying for such a grant is to fill the FAFSA form giving out details of financial status. Then your Student Aid report will be prepared based on the information that you have given. The EFC figure will be calculated and fixed for your case. Now you can apply for various grants that are available in this category and the amount you will be granted will depend on the EFC which has been computed from the FAFSA form. The details of the grants that are available in your program can be sought from the institution’s financial aids officer. Once you have found a grant that you can apply for and which meets your requirements, then all you need to do is just fill up the application and submit on time.
How much money will one get from College Students Grants?
The exact amount of money that you will receive will depend on the EFC, cost of the program and your enrollment status. A student can receive up to $ 20000 per academic year using all possible student grants. These amounts are decided after considering the requirements and your own financial status.
The college student grants are a great means to use government money to acquire higher educational qualifications and dream of a better future.
