potential to significantly contribute to the growth of the economy. Today agriculture is just not limited to farming and has many other associated aspects such as import & export, research, creating improved farm machinery and making available the right kind of seeds and fertilizers. Storage and transportation of the farm produce also plays as important role in the whole sector. There are several government sponsored grants in various streams of agriculture which have different objectives. Agriculture grants are meant to give an impetus to the whole sector increasing production and simultaneously ensuring efficient transportation and distribution network. There are three distinct aspects of farming which the government aims to help by the means of these grants. They are helping improve farm produce by better technology and creating more farms, aiding agricultural research which will develop new methods of cultivation and finally promoting the industries engaged in production of fertilizers and farm equipment so that they are available at lesser costs to the farmer at the end of the chain.

Farmers who are directly engaged in agriculture are the first and prime target of all government agriculture grants. Farmers are given either cash grants to buy better seeds, modern farming equipment or build better irrigation and storage infrastructures. Farmers can take grants to purchase more land and set up new farms. Even those farmers who are enterprising enough can avail grants for reclaiming wasteland for farming. Indirect grants are available in the form of subsidy on fertilizers, farm equipment and low interest loans for the farmers. There are special grants for farmers whose crops are damaged due to natural calamities and are compensated by means of giving them free government money to make up for their loses.

Agricultural research will play an important role in constantly improving the productivity of the sector and therefore is on the priority list of agriculture grants. Institutions and organizations involved in the under taking research that will ultimately benefit the farmers and help increase the farm produce are being encouraged in their efforts by means of these grants. The grants can be used to acquire sophisticated equipments for the research laboratories and fund research programs directly related to increase in food production. The Department of Agriculture of the US government is funding research across the US and even abroad to ensure that new and improved technology is constantly being developed for better farming.

The businesses that are producing farm equipment are also entitled for agricultural grants which are offered by the means of sales linked subsidy which helps their business and simultaneously helps farmers to buy that equipment at lesser costs. Even the transportation and storage logistic chains are helped out with the agriculture grants so that they can easily help the distribution network to take the yield from the farm to the consumer without wastage and in minimum possible time. Certain farm produce are extremely time sensitive and need to be transported quickly to their destination. Agriculture grants can be taken to improve the network of distribution so that the farm products are made available where they are needed most.
